The St Ives Area Life Group would like to invite you to join us one evening to see what we are about.

Who are we?
We are a diverse group of people from St Ives and a number of the surrounding villages. At present we have 12 members, some are “old hands”, others are more recent members.

Where do we meet?
Several of the group very kindly open up their homes to us, our main venues are in Hemingford Grey, and Old Hurst, but we have also met in Fenstanton and Godmanchester.

What do we do?
We get together on a Wednesday evening and the aim of the Life Group is twofold. Firstly it is to help us grow personally in our walk with Christ and to love and serve those in the group. Secondly it is to look outside the group and by practical help and evangelism introduce our non Christian family, friends, neighbours and wider community to the love of Christ.

How do we do it?
Hopefully by friendship, laughter, care and compassion, but on a practical level the evening usually (but not always) follows the 4 W’s, of Welcome, Worship, Word and Witness.

The WELCOME is time to catch up with each other and also involves an ice breaker question to introduce the topic for the evening.

A time of WORSHIP allows us to centre our attention on God and thank and praise him for what he has done for us.

Time spent studying God’s WORD, whether by looking back at the previous Sunday’s “sermon” or using study guides, DVD series etc. helps us grow in our faith and learn to apply it to our daily lives.

And lastly but not least, we look at how we might WITNESS God’s love to those who do not know him.

What else do we do?
As a Life group we support church activities such as Alpha, Shareout and Welcome Lunches etc. We also prayerfully and financially support the work of Paul and Paula Spalding who take God’s word into the local schools and that of Anthony and Liz Williams in Tanzania, where they support local pastors and work with street children.

Several times a year we visit Fenland Community Church, join in their worship and have great fun using puppets to illustrate Gods’ word. We also support Dick and Jean Jennings work with staff and residents at Congear Court; a shelter that provides temporary accommodation for homeless people, and we are usually involved with holding a carol service for senior citizens at the Medway Court in December.

We have also been known to go out for the odd meal, film and BBQ etc.
